Part 1

"Will you marry me?"

Those were the most unexpected words she had ever heard in her entire life. "Riley..... are you serious?" she asked after a long pause.

"Of course I am. I want you to be my wife. I want to settle down with you, and watch our children grow with you, and grow old with you. I love you, Buffy."

She didn't know what to say. "Riley, that is so sweet, but i need to think about this."

"I know its a big step, but I think we are ready for it." Rile rationalized.

Riley and she had been dating since she started college 3yrs ago. They met at a party and became good friends. They were both from small towns and moving to a big university had been a big adjustment. She thought that he was really nice, and she liked him. But he was the one who really wanted to date. She had never really had a serious boyfriend and was ready for a new experience, and he was there.

They had fun together, but she didn't think she was ready for marriage. At least not yet. There were so many things she wanted to experience, and sometimes she got the feeling like her life, as it was now, wasn't enough.

"Buffy, say something," his words jarred her out of her mental debate.

"Riley, I need some time to think about this."

"Honey, I know its a big step, but we are ready for this. I mean, I'll give you some time if you need it, but just think we'll be graduating soon. We'll both get good jobs, settle down, and start a family. It'll be perfect. Just what we've always wanted."

"Riley, sweetheart, I need time to think about this." She stated. "Give me a month."

He looked at her for a second then said, "That seems like a long time, but I love you and I know we are meant to be together. So I'll wait for you forever."

"Thank you," she whispered. "Can you take me home now, I'm feeling alittle tired."

"Sure its alot to process, I understand. Just remember, I love you, Buffy."

"I know, Riley." 'That's what makes this so hard' she thought to herself.
